Pedreira do Campo Landscape Regeneration

In a geological context of manifest scientific, geo-heritage and pedagogic importance, we were commissioned with producing a regeneration plan for the site known as Pedreira do Campo, which is considered a regional natural treasure. We conceived the idea of two different walkways: one, designed by us, for the observation and interpretation of the geological phenomenon that is Pedreira do Campo; and another, integrated into an already existing path that traverses the area of intervention.
The first route takes the form of an elevated walkway built in solid wood that skims over the rocky, undulating terrain, thus avoiding indiscriminate occupation of the ground and keeping impermeable surfaces to a minimum. The aim was for the walkway, on account of its own lightness and reservation, could become an additional point of interest, thanks to the diversity of visual approaches it creates and its organic structure, which comes to an end at a viewpoint over the sea in the southern area of the site.
The walkway’s wooden handrail was added not just to make it safer for visitors but also to serve as a means of mounting information panels, based on specific scientific guidance, at intervals along the route.
